NFT Experts Explain: How to Maintain Your Mental Health in a Bear Market

How to Maintain Your Mental Health in a Bear Market

Being a member of the NFT Community means being exposed to quite a bit. The market is unpredictable, and so much is happening that it's hard to keep track. FOMO, or Fear of Missing Out, can be quite a nuisance.

While you're busy exploring and building NFT networks (which can be tiring enough on its own), you must be alert for Web3 security breaches. Hackers can compromise project Discords daily, depriving people of their assets and derailing communities.

A sense of dread or uncertainty can cloud even success in NFT. There is always the possibility that all this could unravel at a moment's notice. The highs are high, and the lows are lower. If in doubt, check Confession's Twitter account. Swinging between the valleys or peaks can drain even the most resilient minds. It's no surprise that Web3's current bear market is making many feel down.

However, this isn't the first bear market seen in crypto. And it certainly won't be the last. It is important to figure out ways to prioritize, balance your mental wellbeing, and remain active in the community you love.

Some projects are explicitly to encourage positivity within NFTs. But, it's different when you want to develop a long-term strategy that acts as a psychological guide for Web3.

How can you do that? Spirited, open, constructive discussions about the NFT world and how it affects your mental wellbeing are just as harmful (and unhelpful) as telling someone with depression to "just quit being sad."

In this spirit, we reached out to members of NFT to gather their views on how best to maintain mental health and physical wellbeing in bear markets and NFT generally. We hope the community engages in the ongoing dialogue on the issue and fosters open and supportive environments for all who need them.

Roger Dickerman

Roger Dickerman, an influential NFT thought leader and brain behind Artifex Project, came into the NFT space during the summer of 2020. Soon after, he was convinced that NFTs would majorly affect art. The NFT ecosystem at that point was relatively small.

Dickerman told nft that "you were aware of everything going on." "You could keep up with the pace. People who arrived in the space at the beginning of 2020 or 2021 felt they could keep up. It became unrealistic at some point in the future, let's say, mid-2021.

Dickerman offers two strategies to help you adapt to the NFT chaos healthily. The acceptance strategy is the first.

He says, "At least at first, you don't believe that [it is impossible to keep up]," he continues. "Whether you're an entrepreneur, builder, collector or founder, you pride yourselves on keeping up. You don't know what to do? It's okay to try again, but you're still spinning your wheels. For some, this is the beginning of burnout. It's acceptance. It is acceptance.

He said that the best thing is to prioritize what you take in. Be conscious of what you filter out. Think about which brands, artists, social media channels, and platforms you use. Be patient and give yourself enough time.

"Explore. Adventure. Have fun.

Dickerman also strongly believes in finding educators within the NFT industry, especially for newcomers.

"Explore. Adventure. Have fun. Learn a little. He recommends finding those [educational] voices who consistently contribute and presenting their views in a way you respect. You can approach this by taking things in small steps. For instance, consult an educator if security is a concern in Web3.

Dickerman names Richerd Chen of the manifold. XYZ his favourite educator in the space. "He's done a wonderful job of getting resources together, being open-faced, and engaging people in conversations. I'm sure it's tiring for him at this point, but people [appreciate] it."

Dickerman says it's challenging to pay attention to how space affects us. It often takes the bottom dropping out to see that we have been burnt out for weeks. It is important to keep track of your mental health.

"Being mentally sound in this chaotic space, which may normalize five or 10 years down the line, is a continual process. It's more than 'I got better, and now it's over.' It's a continuous refresh and check-in of yourself and how you engage with the market. It's a living, breathing thing.

Shira Lazar

Shira has many hats. She is an avid collector, advocate, and advocate of NFTs. She co-founded PEACE INTERACTIVE, an internet yoga, meditation, breathwork, and digital media brand What's Trending.

Lazar, just like Dickerman says that to make the space work for you, it's important to know what you want from it and what you intend to do with it.

Lazar explained, "first, there was excitement, then some anxiety when I started spending more than what I thought I would on the space." He shared this information with nft now in an email exchange. It was time to step back and say, "How do I make it work for me instead of me working for this?" I realized I wasn't an NFT-day trader and that I prefer to be part and hold. I don't particularly appreciate obsessing too much about pricing. It was causing me a lot of anxiety. I created a monthly budget for my NFT passions.

This pragmatic thinking can be a great way to absorb the shocks the cryptocurrency world can throw at us. Lazar believes NFTs are better viewed as an investment into a project or community than a single digital asset. It can also help you avoid burnout and promote mental longevity. Boundaries matter. Lazar emphasizes that the space can take up time and mental resources that could be used for other purposes.

"Creating safe spaces that promote mental and physical wellbeing in life is as important as it is in Web3, where more people are connected than ever."

These preventive actions are necessary, but how can you help if you're already feeling burned out?

Lazar shares that when I notice I am becoming anxious due to stress, overworking or not taking care of myself mentally and physically, I turn to my routine. "I believe creating safe environments for mental and bodily wellbeing is important in life and Web3, where there are more connections than ever.

Peace Inside Live was started during the pandemic [...]. I see many NFT-focused projects on [wellness], including Dinomonks, Grateful Giraffes and Mystic Sisterhood.

Lazar believes sharing your struggles with others can help create an environment of support within the NFT community.

Lazar shares that she hopes others, including women, will be able to see her vulnerability as they learn and grow. "We're not only here to build businesses. We're here for a better way of life, both good and bad.

Espen Kluge

Norwegian digital visual artist Espen Klage, composer and coder, whose most famous NFT work comes in his series of 100 Javascript–generated portraits. Espen Kluge advocates keeping your Web3 expectations real. This includes building a mental buffer and ensuring you talk to your doctor if you have any questions.

Kluge wrote in an email to TheNFTnews.org, "My overall strategy when I entered NFTs and [...] as a part of its uprising" "I have bipolar disorder. Things like my art losing value could lead to depression, hypomania, and mania episodes. I am now well-medicated, and it would be much harder to bring me down.

Kluge states that engaging in NFT space is not a sprint but a marathon. Kluge also says that many people make the same mistakes he does. Notably, Kluge emphasizes that failure is an acceptable (and healthy!) part of life. This observation can also be applied to NFTs.

He adds, "If you have ever failed," "Think about another time that you have had a failure -- everybody has hundreds, my thousands of failures -- and think how small this past failure looks from today's point of view and how small the current one will appear in the future." Don't assume that time spent on Twitter determines your success in crypto-art.

"Buy art you love, don't waste what you can lose."

Kluge believes that being true to your artistic vision and self are key factors in navigating the space. Keeping your identity and sanity stable in an ever-changing and volatile environment is possible by staying patient.

He states, "Make art just for the sake and not to please anyone." "Buy what you love, but don't spend anything you can't afford. Like a newly discovered nation, the NFT area is filled with people. It can be hard to determine what is good from what is wrong. Take your time and patience, and create and show your fabulous art.

Kluge sees an increase in support for mental and emotional wellbeing despite the financial hardships caused by the bear markets. Kluge believes it is important for the community to continue removing the stigma from mental health issues and create places where people can share their experiences and support one another.

He states, "There cannot possibly be enough effort dedicated to improving mental health." "I think that this community has such positive spirit that it is logical that it could become an environment where mental illness sufferers are not stigmatized."

Can a Major Esports Network Convert NFTs’ Biggest Detractors?

There's more to NFTs than just the dynamic PFP projects you might stumble across when browsing social media. For many, the traditional view of NFTs is rooted in a discipline very different from the realm of arts: play-to-earn (P2E) games . This is particularly true for Asian countries, where P2E games like the struggling Axie Infinity were the most popular in the recent study conducted by CashNetUSA that analyzed the top sought-after NFTs according to region.  Then there's TechStorm , a Singapore-based digital esports platform that intends to act as an international hub on Web3, which will facilitate collaborations ranging from gamesfi (gaming along with decentralized financing) droppings of NFTs DAO formation, and other things, according to the latest press release . Why it matters NFTs are no strangers to the promise of utility. There are even some who argue that imposing utility on an NFT project can hurt its quality. For new NFT projects entering the market, utility remains a top priority - particularly for corporate-backed projects. However, most buyers of things expect to be able to use them after they purchase them. As a result, numerous projects have served as membership passes in the past. There will be a message saying, "Buy our NFT, and you'll get X p...

A Guide to Magic Eden: A Young Marketplace Making Its Mark

There is a possibility that NFTs might not have gained recognition without the Ethereum blockchain. In the early days of ETH, it appeared Vitalik Buterin's brainchild would always be the go-to platform for nonfungible token sales. However, the NFT ecosystem has expanded far beyond the scope of a single blockchain since the token craze of 2021. With new marketplaces popping up almost every quarter, NFTs are available on virtually every major chain today. In the NFT space, it can sometimes be evident which entities are running sprints and which are running marathons. There is, however, a difference between each of these platforms. You have just discovered Magic Eden, a shiny new marketplace that does so much more than facilitate transactions. This new platform immediately caught the attention of the greater NFT community with its down-to-earth brand voice and fully-integrated Web3 technology. Since Magic Eden began operations a year ago, it has become a serious competitor in the NFT ...
